SourceHOV partners with Speak UP! to roll out proactive approach in preventing harassment & suspicious activity in schools
DALLAS, Feb. 12, 2016 – Grapevine-Colleyville ISD has added a new anti-bullying app to its roster in its diligent fight against bullying, harassment and suspicious behavior in schools. The Speak UP! app from Go Speak Up LLC, in Santa Monica, CA, in collaboration with Texas-based SourceHOV, is designed to enable students to anonymously report behavior concerns to school administrators. Meanwhile, back-end data analytics provides vital information directly to the school to help pinpoint issues, individuals and even areas of a school that are prone to troublesome activity.

"In Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, we pride ourselves on being innovators in the classroom and a positive influence in the community," said Dr. Robin Ryan, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Superintendent. "As the first school district in the United States to partner with SourceHOV and Speak UP! to implement their anti-bullying app, we are excited to provide another avenue for students to Speak Up when they see something that is not representative of the characteristics of good citizenship and mutual respect we strive to promote in GCISD."
The Speak UP! team developed the app after learning that approximately 160,000 students in the United States miss school each day as a result of being bullied. Research has shown that students notice suspicious behavior earliest and when reported, preventive measures can be taken to stop issues before they begin. Student reporting is therefore a vital step toward preventing major behavioral escalations.
State Representative Giovanni Capriglione, who represents GCISD and has three school-age daughters, stated that he was "happy to see innovative technology used through the very devices that have enabled cyber-bullying."
The Speak UP! mobile and web-based app allows students to anonymously report behaviors they notice and gives students the power to control a situation.
"We're very pleased to partner with GCISD, a leader in the community and pioneer in changing the way students learn," said Ron Cogburn, CEO of SourceHOV. "We hope that we can make a difference for students and teachers and that they feel like they now have more tools to use in the continual fight against harassment."
